On Thursday, Sept. 14, ABC15 will host a phone bank from 9–Ten a.m. and Four–7 p.m. to collect cash donations for the effort. Those donations will go to buy bike supplies like tubes, tires, fresh seats and cleaning supplies.

The Arizona Association for Foster & Adoptive Parents will help distribute all the bicycles collected during the drive to children during this winter`s holiday season. The organization`s aim is to support, educate, empower and provide a unified voice for Arizona`s foster and adoptive families with enlargening the well-being and stability of the state`s most vulnerable children.

Children in foster care have an especially raunchy life. Many times, they inject foster care with no more than the clothes on their back. Our playmates at Recycle Your Bicycle want to make sure every child can participate in a normal part of growing up – railing a bike.

“One mom who got a bike last year told us that ‘bikes have heart healing powers,'” said Joe Jacober, coordinator of the Recycle Your Bicycle program. “We are amazed and grateful at how our community comes together to help us make sure that vulnerable children in foster care have a ‘very first bike’ memory like every other kid.”

Recycle your Bicycle embarked in two thousand nine with one volunteer and one bike. Over the years, it has grown into a year-round collection effort. In 2016, the program distributed more than one thousand bikes.

«Earnhardt Auto Centers has partnered with ABC15 and the Recycle Your Bicycle Program for several years. The participation from the Phoenix community, combined with the enthusiasm of our staff has just been amazing,» said Tex Earnhardt, founder, Earnhardt Auto Centers. «The number of bicycles donated is growing each year and as a result, even more deserving kids in the Arizona Foster Care Program have benefited. We absolutely love this Program and are looking forward to participating again this year.»
