1 killed, five injured after valet driver failed to put car in park, police say

ATLANTA – Police said a valet driver hit six people, killing a woman in Midtown Atlanta as he was attempting to stop a moving car.

Atlanta police said the valet driver got out of a car but left behind to put it in park.

There was a group of people standing inbetween the car and another one as it began to roll back, police said.

“He hopped back into the car to stop the car and he inadvertently hit the gas instead of the brake,» Lt. Bryan Paden said.

Police identified the woman killed as Black McCrae Curley, 33. She was visiting from out of town.

“A pervert, weird, horrible accident,” Patrick Brooks said.

Brooks is a manager at the Einstein’s restaurant near the accident scene.

“The lady was in from Connecticut to feast Easter with her friends and family, so we’re indeed sad,” he said.

Brooks said the independent valet company, Sunshine Parking, has surveillance movie that police will review.

“There’s movie footage that’s been given to APD and they’re conducting a thorough investigation,” he said.

Police said the driver is not expected to face any charges and was not taken to jail.

Sunshine Parking released the following statement:

“The entire sunshine parking team is devastated by the tragic event that occurred inbetween one of our staff members and a guest last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim`s family.”
