Today in China Car History and Spotted in China a beautiful black Hongqi HQ430 sedan, seen on a rainy day in effortless Beijing. It was in super form and carries a license plate from Jilin province with the ultra infrequent sequence of 9990.
The Hongqi HQ430 was a variant of the Hongqi HQ3 series, manufactured from two thousand six until 2010. The HQ3 was based on the fourth-generation (S180) Toyota Crown Majesta.

Back in July I went to the Hongqi Factory Museum in Changchun, a beautiful place with beautiful cars. See Part one with intro here and Part two here. The museum usually has 16-20 cars in display. Only six are permanently displayed and the other cars rotate. Today we take a look at what I didn’t see.
Hongqi, or Crimson Flag, is China’s oldest and most famous car brand. It is possessed by Very first Auto Works, or FAW. Hongqi was founded in 1958. Today the brand makes two production cars: the Hongqi L5 and the Hongqi H7.

Time now for Part two of my visit to the Hongqi Museum in the excellent city of Changchun in Jilin Province in China. Part one plus introduction here. Kicking off instantly with the beautiful Hongqi CA630 VIP bus, manufactured from one thousand nine hundred eighty until 1987. Racy decals are flawlessly 80’s!

When in Changchun I went to the auto showcase, ate a lot of greasy lamb, and walked through town looking for old Hongqi cars. I found a many, most of the Audi-based kind. Without further delay: the crimson car is a very early Hongqi CA7220AE Xinxing (Fresh Starlet) in a infrequent crimson color.

A beautiful black Hongqi HQ300 sedan, Spotted in China in the Dongba area in the far eastern suburbs of Beijing. The good old ‘Qi was is superb form, slick paint and shiny chrome, totally original, nothing missing or cracked, and not a spat of rust in view.

Today in China Car History a very special car: this is the mighty Hongqi HQ3 parade car, based on the Hongqi HQ3 sedan, which was based on the fourth-generation (S180) Toyota Crown Majesta. The transformation commenced with deleting the entire roof, and continued with opening up the car by thirty centimeter, strengthening the windshield, adding a parade handlebar, and putting flags on the fenders.

A very clean and very black Hongqi HQ300, seen on a dusty day in central Beijing. The Hongqi, Crimson Flag, HQ300 debuted in two thousand six and was made until 2010. The series name was ‘HQ3′, and it was based on the fourth-generation (S180) Toyota Crown Majesta that was made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture. FAW, or Very first Auto Works, is the possessor of the famous Hongqi brand.
A Bounty for a Friend: Kim Jong-il got a Hongqi HQ3 from China

When the late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il visited China in May two thousand eleven to ‘learn about’ the Chinese economy he visited several state-owned enterprises, one of those was a factory from Very first Auto Works (FAW) in Changchun, Jilin Province. Chinese state media at the time only said Kim “visited assembly lines from FAW and FAW Jiefang”. Thanks to a post on a South Korean army fan-site we now know a little bit more. Kim got a Hongqi and ordered three thousand army trucks…
History: the Hongqi HQ430 Fresh Flagship bullet-proof Limousine

Here we have a very special bullet proof limousine, it debuted as a concept car at the two thousand six Beijing Auto Demonstrate. Its total name is the Hongqi HQ430 Fresh Flagship. It was based on the Hongqi (Crimson Flag) HQ430 sedan which in turn was based on the Hongqi HQ3 sedan which in turn was based on the Toyota Crown Majesta. ‘Fresh Flagship’ refers to the old Hongqi Flagship which was based on the Lincoln Town Car.
