The incidents happened in the five thousand and five thousand one hundred blocks of Spring Lake Way in the last few days, police said. Both victims were women, including a woman and her infant child, Baltimore police media relations Chief T.J. Smith said.
Police said a group of four people inbetween the ages of twelve and eighteen attempted to rob and carjack a woman around Two:30 p.m. Sunday.
“(It’s) very disturbing that we’re talking about children of that age (committing crimes),” Smith said.
A woman and her infant child were robbed and carjacked at gunpoint around Four:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Smith said there were five or six robbers with an age range inbetween fourteen and seventeen years old.
“A woman and her infant child, a 7-week-old in the arms of her mom, were victims of an armed robbery,” Smith said.
Smith said the descriptions were vague.
One of those involved in the carjacking is described as a 17-year-old black masculine with a light complexion, wearing crimson cut-offs and an orange T-shirt. He is described as five feet ten inches tall and weighing two hundred forty five pounds, police said.
“He actually very likely stands out because he’s one of the larger kids out of this group,” Smith said. “So if anyone recognizes any friend of theirs, and any person driving a vehicle that’s not theirs — he stole a Volkswagen Passat — and he fits that description, we’d like for you to give us a call.”
In the armed robbery, one attacker is described as a black masculine with a medium complexion, about fourteen years old, five feet seven inches tall, weighing one hundred sixty pounds, wearing suntan pants and a white T-shirt, police said.
Smith said Wednesday there was a strong possibility that the same group of juveniles committed both crimes.
“The possibility is off-the-charts high. It’s more than likely it’s the same group of people, and that’s what we’ve seen in a lot of these cases,” Smith said. “We absolutely believe these are linked incidents, where a group of juveniles are acting reckless and out of control and need to be managed. And we need their parents to help us out and the community to hopefully help us out and identify them.”
Officers canvassed the neighborhood Wednesday, going door to door to attempt and get more information. News of the crimes rattled some longtime residents.
“I’ve lived in Baltimore my entire life. My family’s been here since the 1700s. My wifey’s family has been here since the 1700s. We’re getting out,” Homeland resident Thomas Maxwell said.
Anonymous peak leads police to stolen vehicle, juveniles
Smith in a tweet shortly before Five:30 p.m. Wednesday that the stolen Volkswagen was recovered in the five thousand nine hundred block of Benton Heights in northeast Baltimore.
A peak came in from an anonymous caller to report a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of Belair Road and Bayonne Avenue, police said. The caller gave the tag number on the vehicle, which police determined was the stolen Volkswagen, police said.
Authorities said the Baltimore police aviation unit, Foxtrot, was called to the area and found and followed the vehicle to the five thousand nine hundred block of Benton Heights, where the occupants of the vehicle bailed out and ran, police said.
“The Regional Auto Theft Taskforce (RATT) was deployed to the area. They spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The occupants did not stop and fled in the vehicle. With the assistance of the Baltimore City Foxtrot, Baltimore County Aviation and northeast patrol officers, they were able to apprehend two suspects who bailed out of the vehicle. A weapon was recovered as well,” Smith said.
Officers were called to the area and took one of the suspects into custody. The officer eyed the suspect fumbling around with something on the ground, which turned out to be a replica gun, police said.
Three other suspects were found and taken into custody by the RATT units. All of the suspects are juveniles, but the following two are charged as adults with armed carjacking:
- Korran Joshua Morris, 16, of Baltimore
- George William Bryant, 16, of Baltimore
Morris and Bryant were taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility and processed. The other two occupants were charged as juveniles.
- 14-year-old masculine from Baltimore, charged with stolen auto
- 15-year-old masculine from Baltimore, charged with stolen auto
Detectives are continuing to investigate the suspects’ connections to similar incidents. Police are asking anyone with information to call 410-366-6341 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP.
