The redesigned two thousand seventeen Mazda CX-5 is a driver`s SUV. It treats superb, turns superb, has more power, and can tow twice as much as the Nissan Rogue. The refreshed two thousand seventeen Rogue, on the other forearm, has an available third row, a larger and more usable cargo area, and better fuel economy.

The Nissan Rogue is a little less expensive than the Mazda CX-5, from the base model to the top of the line.
The base price of the Rogue is $23,820, undercutting the $24,045 CX-5 by $225. However, unless every dollar matters, you`d do well to pass by the bare-bones base Rogue in favor of the SV trim ($25,240) or the SL trim ($29,960).
The CX-5 is priced right at the class average and is a good buy if you`re looking for an upscale interior, lots of features, and good spectacle. The CX-5`s top Grand Touring trim starts at $29,395.

This isn`t much of a competition when it comes to acceleration. With just one hundred seventy horsepower, the Nissan Rogue is underpowered and frustrating to drive when acceleration is necessary, such as passing on the highway.
The Mazda CX-5`s Two.5-liter four-cylinder engine makes one hundred eighty seven horsepower. Albeit that won`t win it many haul races against non-Rogue competition, its seventeen extra horsepower is enough to give it a determined advantage.

While the Rogue also has some outstanding treating characteristics, it can`t be shoved through corners as hard as the CX-5 can.

Fuel Efficiency

Fewer horsepower often means greater fuel economy, and that is the case with the Nissan Rogue, which gets twenty six mpg in the city and thirty three mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, a $1,350 option, fuel economy drops by one mpg for both city and highway driving.
The Mazda CX-5 isn`t too far behind, with twenty four mpg city, thirty one highway in the front-wheel-drive version. Those figures dip to twenty three city and twenty nine highway with all-wheel drive.

Seating and Interior Refinement
This matter will be determined by your needs. Both interiors have been restyled this year with the purpose of creating a refined, upscale, and roomy space, despite the compact size and relatively low prices of these challenging vehicles.
The Nissan Rogue is roomier overall and can be had with three rows of seating, an option not available in the CX-5, which seats a maximum of five. That said, the CX-5’s interior is amazingly quiet, and the back doors open broader now than they used to, making it lighter to get in and out. A driver-oriented cockpit adds to the already joy CX-5.

Interior Technology

Test drivers like the Nissan Rogue`s infotainment system, when it is working. It tends to freeze up, turning an otherwise pleasant system into a mark against the Rogue.
The CX-5 doesn`t have that woe, and it has a standard 7-inch display screen, compared to the Rogue`s 5-inch screen. You operate the CX-5`s system with a control knob that works fairly well, however some reviewers would have preferred traditional knobs for the stereo controls. Neither vehicle offers Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Cargo Space
Winner: two thousand seventeen Nissan Rogue (Details Below)
The cargo area is one of the largest selling points for the Rogue, albeit the CX-5 also has a trick up its sleeve when it comes to cargo storage. In raw numbers, there is no contest. The Rogue has 39.Three cubic feet of room behind the rear seats, seventy cubic feet behind the 2nd row, and 105.8 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. The CX-5, on the other arm, has 30.9 cubic feet with all the seats in use, and 59.6 cubic feet of max cargo room, both of which are down from the two thousand sixteen model.
The CX-5 does have a 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat, which permits you to fold down the middle of the rear seat to make room for long cargo. But that can`t rival with the eighteen different cargo configurations in the Nissan Rogue.

Safety

We unluckily can`t name a winner here, as the two thousand seventeen Mazda CX-5 hasn`t yet been fully evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The CX-5 earned an overall four-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Rogue gets four out of five starlets in overall crash testing from the NHTSA and is an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
Keep in mind that the advanced safety features suggested in the Rogue are for upper trims only. The CX-5 comes standard with a rearview camera and low-speed automatic braking, which detects collisions and applies the brakes when the car is going up to eighteen miles per hour.

Both vehicles received scores of three out of five from J.D. Power and Associates. Both vehicles suggest three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranties and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranties, which are typical warranties across the auto market.

The refreshed two thousand seventeen Nissan Rogue offers just a little bit more overall utility, along with greater fuel efficiency and slightly lower pricing.
The CX-5 just edges out the Rogue in this head to head, but that doesn`t mean the Rogue is a bad purchase either. Both SUVs rank in the top half of our compact SUV rankings.
