Two people killed in 3-car crash on Tower Road; police suspect driver who caused crash was intoxicated
A man and a woman died after a three-car crash in Aurora early Tuesday morning, while the suspected buzzed driver believed to have caused the crash is expected to live.
AURORA – A man and a woman died after a three-car crash in Aurora early Tuesday morning, while the suspected tipsy driver believed to have caused the crash is expected to live.
It happened on Tower Road, near 22nd Avenue, just before two a.m., the Aurora Police Department confirmed.
A 30-year-old man driving a black GMC Yukon Denali was driving northbound at a “very high” rate of speed when it rear-ended a blue Ford Escort ZX2 driven by a 45-year-old woman, police said.
The Escort spun off the road to the right, while the Yukon swerved into oncoming traffic and slammed into a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by a 60-year-old man.
The drivers of the Escort and Ford pickup were pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving the Yukon Denali was taken to a local hospital but is expected to get through.

“We believe the driver of the Denali was intoxicated,” said Aurora Police Lt. Mike McLellan.
McLellan said the woman was following her beau home when the Denali rear-ended her car — crushing the back end.
“The female that was in the Escort… [her] bf was in a different vehicle in front of her, [and he] was not involved in the accident. I believe after we talked to him he said he eyed her headlights just go off the road truly quickly to the right and that’s why he stopped,” McLellan said.

Excessive speed and alcohol intoxication are believed to be factors in the crash.
The driver of the Yukon Denali could face two counts of vehicular homicide and DUI, police said.
Wreckage from the crash was spread over one hundred fifty yards, 7NEWS Reporter Eric Lupher reported from the scene.

Tower Road was closed inbetween Smith Road and East Colfax Avenue until about 9:Ten a.m. Tuesday.
Police are still looking into the possibility someone ran from scene.
