2016 Honda Accord
2016 Honda Accord
Since the late 1970s, the Honda Accord has suggested a solid blend of supple rail, agile treating, and astounding packaging. It’s a midsize sedan benchmark all others aim to hammer. In this 9th generation, Honda offers a broad range of Accords to choose from. One of our favorites is the 189-hp four-cylinder Sport model (other four-cylinder Accords make one hundred eighty five hp) paired with a manual transmission. Don’t want to row your own gears? The four-cylinder is also available with a CVT. Honda says improvements in the two thousand sixteen models should permit it to hit thirty seven mpg highway. The smoothest and sweetest powertrain is the 278-hp V6 paired to a six-speed automatic.
The Accord has one of the roomiest trunks in the midsize class (15.8 cu-ft.) as well as a comfy rear seat with 38.Five inches of legroom and a cabin defined by big windows that provide an airy feel.
2016 Toyota Camry
2016 Toyota Camry
In the race to sell the most midsize sedans, Toyota wins. Last year the company moved 389,091 Camrys, edging out the 373,948 Accords that Honda sold. We’d guess Toyota will be maintain the title this year, considering Toyota refreshed the Camry two thousand fifteen with an improved interior and treating as well as a muscly fresh design.
The Camry has always been a roomy and comfy sedan with 38.9 inches of rear seat legroom and 15.Four cu-ft. of trunk space. Albeit many competitors are more joy to drive, the Camry is always cushy and quiet. The 178-hp four-cylinder is hitched solely to a six-speed automatic, and it supplies a maximum highway fuel economy of thirty five mpg, which is down a few from the top of this competitive class. However the relatively inexpensive $26,790 Hybrid model moves those numbers to forty three mpg city / thirty nine highway, which are excellent. We’d opt for the 268-hp V6 that can thrust this modest sedan to sixty mph in around six seconds.
The ten Most Annoying Things You Find in Fresh Cars

We’d guess Toyota will be maintain the title this year, considering Toyota refreshed the Camry two thousand fifteen with an improved interior and treating as well as a nicely-shaped fresh design.
The Camry has always been a roomy and comfy sedan with 38.9 inches of rear seat legroom and 15.Four cu-ft. of trunk space. Albeit many competitors are more joy to drive, the Camry is always cushy and quiet. two thousand sixteen Mazda6
When it comes to driving enjoyment, few midsize sedans can touch the Mazda6. The Mazda connects the driver with the car in a way that feels more like a sport sedan than a pedestrian family car. The swoopy sheetmetal makes it seem more upscale, too, which is awesome considering the design is four years old. An update this year has brought a fresh instrument panel, a fresh 7-inch display, and a serious reduction in road noise.
Under the rubber hood is a 184-hp Two.5-liter four-cylinder paired to precise six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Best of all, the most thrifty of all Mazda6 models comebacks 28-mpg city and a utter forty mpg on the highway. That’s at the top of this group. Mazda offers a suite of safety tech under the i-Activesense banner that includes blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, and wise brake support.
two thousand sixteen Chevrolet Malibu
The Malibu lightly qualifies as the most improved car here. The utter redesign for two thousand sixteen vaulted the Chevy toward the top in terms of driving feel, thanks to a 300-lb. weight loss and an all-new chassis. Theres’ now a pair of fresh turbocharged engines: a 1.5-liter unit with one hundred sixty two hp that comes paired to a six-speed automatic and a potent two hundred fifty hp Two.0-liter that’s joined to an 8-speed automatic. The smaller engine comebacks 37-mpg highway and should provide slew of thrust for most buyers. But the hybrid model is now the benchmark in the midsize class fuel economy with an estimated forty eight mpg city and forty five mpg on the highway.
The fresh Malibu’s goodness extends to quality of the materials inwards, where it has the best interior any Chevy has worn in fairly a long time. And the 38.1 inches of rear seat legroom and 15.8 cu-ft. of trunk space are way up over the last Malibu.
two thousand sixteen Ford Fusion
This Ford Fusion was a stunner when it launched at the two thousand twelve Detroit Auto Showcase, and the design, which took a few cues up front from Aston Martin, has aged very well. Overall, the Fusion strikes a superb balance inbetween rail and treating.
This is one sedan that offers numerous powertrain configurations. A Two.5-liter four-cylinder is standard but opting for the mid-level 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes sense because it comebacks the better fuel economy (37 mpg highway). The optional 240-hp Two.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes the Fusion a more joy rail. And the $25,990 Hybrid SE model comes back forty four mpg city and forty one mpg on the highway. There’s even a Fusion plug-in model that, for an extra $8,000 over that Hybrid, produces ninety five MPGe city and eighty one MPGe on the highway. For 2016, Ford has simplified and improved the annoying capacitive touch switches (substituted with more buttons and knobs) and Sync infotainment system. That’s all very good news.
two thousand sixteen Kia Optima
Kia’s Optima has always been the more youthful, stylish, and fun-to-drive cousin to the Hyundai Sonata. The base 185-hp four-cylinder is a bit of a snoozer in a car that feels this sporty, so opt for the sturdy 245-hp Two.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. That model gets an even sharper suspension as well as a unique steering system. And the quilted leather seats and furnishings of the top SX model are fairly posh.
The downside is that all the best stuff here takes the costs up to and well beyond $30,000. That’s a lot for a Kia. Still, even the cheaper cars receive a nicely trimmed interior with a roomy back seat (37.8 inches of legroom) and 15.9 cu-ft. of trunk space. For those hunting for fuel efficiency, there’s a hybrid model, but it comes back just 36-mpg city and forty highway. So if fuel economy is the ultimate criteria, the more efficient Hyundai hybrid might make more sense.
two thousand sixteen Hyundai Sonata
The Hyundai Sonata was remade last year, and while it may have lost a bit of the previous model’s sleek styling, it gained in interior roominess and now boasts more total passenger space than many of its rivals. For 2016, the Sonata receives a standard 7-inch touchscreen and an optional 8-inch unit on upper trim models. Hyundai has made both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility available too.
The Sonata provides a slick, isolated, and quiet rail. It’s certainly not the most engaging or sporty machine, but it’s certainly a pleasant place to spend your commute. A Two.4-liter one hundred eighty five hp four-cylinder is standard but two turbocharged engines are available as options—a 178-hp 1.6-liter in the Eco model and a 240-hp Two.0-liter. That 1.6-liter is our dearest engine in the Sonata range because it provides slew of thrust and it supplies a solid 38-mpg on the highway. Need more? A Hybrid model comes back forty city / forty four highway. And because the battery pack fits underneath the rear seat, Hyundai was able to maintain excellent trunk space in this hybrid—13.Four cu-ft.
